Seeing ourselves in print still gives us goosebumps, so we were very excited that You & Your Wedding chose to feature this beautiful shoot in their Valentines Day edition.
The theme for this shoot was a 1920’s inspiration but with a modern twist which I totally fell in love with. When I arrived on set, the model was having her hair waved to gatsby perfection and the dress was a genuine vintage piece loaned to us just for this shoot.
The cake by Danielle at Bespoke Bakes was also a perfect representation of the theme with a rich green colouring and delicate jewel decorations and quilting detail.
The absolute best part of the shoot was meeting Photographer, Jessy’s little girl who was an absolute dream. I wanted to make a flower girl hoop for her as it would be easier to hold than a bouquet. She sat with me and chose the individual flowers she wanted for it and sat patiently making it with me - so I can’t take full credit for that one! She was a fantastic model and really enjoyed her day being in front of the camera - a real natural!
For our bridal bouquet, we used large pink protea, scented peach roses, grey brunia and abundant greenery to create a wild and natural look. I had researched 1920’s bouquets when initially drawing up the design and they are spectacular! So many enormous, green hand ties, some trailing down the floor - they really knew how to do bold flowers with style back then! I also included some flowers which were traditionally used in this era such as myrtle, a type of green used in royal wedding bouquets since Queen Victoria. The proteas are a more modern flower addition as these come from South Africa but work perfectly with the older style greenery and roses from the early 1900’s.
We had large silver urns as our table vases which we filled with tall soft ruskus, delicate astilbe, thistles and alliums for a bold explosion to rival the bridal bouquet. Our final touches for the wedding flowers was a buttonhole for the groom made from waxflower and brunia with little sprigs of traditional myrtle and the look was perfected.
You can pick up a copy at your local newsagent, supermarket or WH Smiths - we’re on page 80. So grab a cup of tea, coffee or wine (that’s my choice!) and settle down for some inspiration.
